Perama is a small town and seat of the Municipality of Mylopotamos in the Regional Unit of Rethymno in Crete. Perama is located at the 24th km of the old main road Rethymno - Heraklion and the area of Kato Mylopotamos. It is built on the west bank of Geropotamos (Aulopotamos-Mylopotamos), east of Mylopotamos and has an altitude of 75 m.
After the construction of the old national road of the first highway of Crete in the 1920s, Perama replaced Panormo, an important commercial center until then, and developed into a town and an important commercial center of the region with all the authorities and services transferred there.
